Samsung Galaxy Camera launched

Does the world really need yet another digital camera? The correct answer would be an unequivocal and resounding, “Yes!”. Well, you know that the camera industry is going to continue moving forward with ever higher resolution, not to mention advancements in video recording technology, but how about the operating system of the camera? That has more often than not been overlooked, so Samsung might be on to something here with their maiden attempt at an Android-powered camera, the Samsung Galaxy Camera. Yes sir, we are referring to the mobile operating system from Google that sees actions on smartphones and tablets, now making its way to a camera. How does it fare? Hit the extended post to know more

.

The Samsung Galaxy Camera can be said to be a smartphone sans the “phone” bit. After all, it will come with the most recent Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system, not to mention carry a slew of connectivity options that would even turn some smartphones green with envy – such as 3G, 4G and Wi-Fi support. I am not quite sure whether mobile carriers will soon put the Samsung Galaxy Camera up for sale on a 2-year contract with a data plan thrown in for good, but time will tell.

The Samsung Galaxy Camera can be said to be the best Android-powered dedicated camera at this point in time, as its only competitor would be the Nikon Coolpix S800c, but that certainly loses out to the Samsung Galaxy Camera in many aspects. For instance, the Samsung Galaxy Camera has the latest Android operating system version as opposed to Android 2.3 Gingerbread on the S800c, while it has a 21x optical touch zoom lens (vs 10x optical zoom on the Nikon) and a 16-megapixel BSI CMOS sensor.

You can choose from three options – a 3G and Wi-Fi version, a 4G LTE and Wi-Fi version or a Wi-Fi-only model. What is your flavor of the day? I suppose that budget also has plenty of say in the final purchase decision.

Mini Microscope For iPhone

Most people would swear that the iPhone 4S has one of the best cameras around on a smartphone, and I am referring to the days before the HTC One X and Samsung Galaxy S3 were released. Well, do you agree with that particular statement, or do you think that it is a biased perception? Regardless, if you happen to own an iPhone in your pocket and want to do far more than just snap photos of your food with it, then you might want to get up close and personal with other items around you thanks to the$29.99 Mini Microscope For iPhone.
Touted to deliver up to 60x magnification right on your iPhone itself, it will come with a trio of built-in white LEDs that function as a light source, allowing you to check out very small things, verify watermarks on important documents and others. All you need to do is attach the Mini Microscope to the camera lens of your iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S and you are good to go.

Touchscreen iMac?

Apple revolutionized the world of touch screens. Between the Touch, Phone and Pad – and many other brands of devices that followed – we have become a swiping, pinching, tapping sort of society. Yet the foundational product in Apple’s collection is still “touch free.” Think about it – the iMac lacks this functionality that we associate with their product brethren. Zorro Macsk, by TMDTouch, proves to change that simple fact and give you a touchscreen iMac.

Zorro Macsk, available at Amazon for just $199, is a frame-like surface you attach to your iMac and in less than 10 seconds you have a touchscreen. Once applied, connect the frame’s USB cable to a port on the computer. Since it supports PNP in Mac OS no driver is required to run the Zorro Macsk. Using infrared technology the users input/touches are then detected. And voila! You are pinching, swiping and tapping just as you do on your other Apple products.  The height of the frame is just 4mm, and the unit is specifically tailored to match the contours of the iMac. Currently the Zorro Macsk is available for the 21.5” screen, with 27” in development. It is available in pink, silver and black and also provides a nice option to protect the monitor bezel from dust and scratches.  Take the convenience of touchscreen to your iMac and enjoy a whole new experience.

LG introduces 84-inch UD 3D TV

LG Electronics has been a busy bee when it comes to churning out new and wondrous pieces of consumer electronics for the masses, and today is no different either. Just what kind of wondrous goodies does LG has in store for us? We are talking about the self proclaimed “world’s first 84-inch Ultra Definition (UD) 3D TV” which was just introduced in the Korean market (southern part, obviously), and I would presume across the world as well. LG’s UD 3D TV is the company’s effort to respond to ever increasing consumer demand for larger and more immersive home TVs that sport a greater degree of functionality.
As for the LG UD 3D TV, it will come with its fair share of new smart features that we will look in closer detail after the jump, and these have been put in place in order to deliver a greater level of convenience and simpler interaction for the user.
Havis Kwon, President and CEO of LG Electronics Home Entertainment Company, said, “The 4K display market is still in its infancy but it was important for LG to claim a stake in this space. LG’s UD 3D TV represents a whole new level of home viewing experience because it offers every advanced technology we currently have to offer.”
Havis should not worry about LG staking a claim as mentioned, especially when the LG UD 3D TV comes with an astonishing picture quality of 8 million pixels per frame, and when you contextualize that into today’s specifications, it would be four times the resolution (3840 x 2160) of existing Full HD TV panels, made possible courtesy of LG’s advanced Triple XD Engine. Not only that, there is also the Resolution Upscaler Plus that enables images from external sources like a portable hard drive or websites to be rendered in higher detail, somewhat akin to upscaling on your DVD player.
Not only that, LG has also outfitted their UD 3D TV with CINEMA 3D technology so that you and your impressed guests will be able to enjoy the most immersive viewing experience possible. The introduction of 3D Depth Control allows one to fine-tune the “distance” between near and far objects on the screen, something like the Nintendo 3DS albeit on a far more refined level.
No idea on how much the LG UD 3D TV will cost, but chepa is definitely not the word that I am looking for. Perhaps in a decade’s time, no?

Award Winning Teeth Whitener

Some things in life are permanent, and certain opportunities do pass you by but once. Take your teeth for instance, once you lose the set of adult teeth through poor oral hygiene or in an accident, it is gone forever – you might be able to get expensive dental implants or dentures, but it will still not be the original set which you were born with, fashioned through the DNA in your body. Hence, it makes perfect sense to take extra good care of your pearly whites, and the $274.95 Award Winning Teeth Whitener would certainly come in handy, where it is touted to deliver longer lasting results compared to other kinds of at-home treatment in addition to whitening your teeth faster without having to rely on those teeth whitening chemicals found in your toothpaste.
A dentists, naturally, is the one behind the Award Winning Teeth Whitener, where you will wear the mouthpiece which emits LED light and heat directly to teeth coated with the included hydrogen peroxide gel, helping whiten your teeth by five shades in just five days, talk about quick results, huh? This enclosed treatment system will prevent whitening oxygen from escaping the teeth, so that maximum exposure is achieved for your teeth to remain white for up to 30 days. Of course, it does help if you avoid coffee and tobacco while making other adjustments to your lifestyle to maintain a set of white teeth.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 Back to School with Student Edition Bundle

So you are out looking for a new tablet device, but cannot really quite make up your mind? Well, you have basically two choices – one that hails from the fruity company known as Apple and runs on the iOS platform, making it the best selling tablet to date, while the other would be one that runs off the Android operating system from Google, and it comes in a myriad of form factors as well as manufacturers. Well, Samsung is back with yet another Android powered tablet, where it is known as the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 that targets students, logically calling it the Student Edition Bundle.
This special bundle would include a Keyboard Dock and an USB Adapter, without costing you any more money since it retails for $249.99 instead of the actual retail value of $349.99. This offer is good from tomorrow onwards, and will last for just a couple of weeks. The Special Edition that comes with a Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 in a unique white color should be able to rack up those fingerprints quick and fast.
Students will definitely find their fair share of benefits from the bundle, where it will include a physical keyboard that can be hooked up to the tablet itself, while the USB adapter is able to support plugging in USB thumb drives in addition to peripherals such USB mice. On the software front, you get Polaris Office pre-loaded, making the Galaxy Tab 2 the perfect device for typing research reports – or perhaps, even creating presentations, right there and then on the spot. I do wonder whether this will affect Microsoft’s plan for their Surface tablets that run on Windows 8 as well as Windows RT, depending on the type of processor for that particular Surface tablet.
Travis Merrill, Director of Marketing, Galaxy Tab, Samsung Electronics America, said, “The education market is a significant priority for Samsung, and we are very pleased to deliver a bundle that is sure to be appealing to just about any student at a very competitive price point. A busy student can achieve a PC-like setup in the dorm room, yet still pop the Galaxy Tab 2 out of the dock and slip it into a pocket for usage while on the go. It truly is the smarter way to learn.”

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 arrives in the US at long last

When Samsung first released the Samsung Galaxy Note, it proved to be quite the sleeper hit. After all, who would have thought that a smartphone device with an unerringly huge display, would actually also double up as a pseudo tablet of sorts? Of course, this would have meant going to the tailors to make sure that your pants pockets are enlarged to accommodate the more generous size of the “phablet”, helping coin a new word in the process. Well, it had to happen – there is a new Galaxy Note in town, and this is the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 would definitely be the latest addition to the Galaxy Note family of devices, where it intends to continue from where the original Galaxy Note left off. With the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1, you will be able to enjoy the functionality and precision of a pen and paper through the merging of the S Pen alongside a 10.1-inch display that is definitely generous compared to its smaller brethren.
Apart from the stunning hardware, Samsung has not forgotten about the end users and consumers, which is why they have thrown into the mix Adobe’s premium creative application, Photoshop Touch that has been specially optimized for Samsung’s S Pen in order to deliver unprecedented precision and control. Not only that, the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 will also introduce the game changing Multiscreen feature that enables you to operate a couple of different apps side-by-side, simultaneously, on the same screen.
Underneath the hood lies a 1.4GHz quad-core processor and 2GB of RAM which should be more than sufficient to get it going, allowing the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 to handle all that you can throw at it without missing a beat. Another thing to take note of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 would be its an advanced S Pen feature that has 1,024 levels of sensitivity, making it ideal for natural and intuitive content creation. You can choose from white or dark gray colors, where it will come in 16GB or 32GB memory configurations, retailing for $499 or $549, respectively.

You might think that the year end holiday season is still some months away, leaving you with plenty of time left to save up and make the necessary holiday purchases in the weeks and even months to come, but life more often than not has a strange way of speeding up things to the extent where you actually regret of not being more efficient in your time management, leaving you with plenty to do at the last minute instead. A Better Angry Birds?

The biggest gaming app can’t get any better, can it? Students at the Copenhagen Institute of Interaction Design think so. Hideaki Matsui and Andrew Spitz created, SuperAngry Birds, a physical controller including a slingshot and detonator for the popular game. The video below shows the device in action. Basically, the units connect via USB. The slingshot can be aimed up or down and its motorized slider enables you to release the birds just as you would on a touch screen. Geek.com has more on the technicalities of how it works. And the inventors have no plans to sell the device. But with such realistic control of a game it is fun to think of what other controllers may be possible.

No More Device Dropping

Ever dropped your phone or e-reader? You are in an elite club if you have not. Personally, I would have to say JFK airport was my worst. I was, typing on the escalator when imbalance took over and wham! There went the smartphone, tumbling down the escalator like a slinky. Yes, expletives followed.
Face it, technology is cool but we have our klutzy tendencies. FLYGRIP is a device that we should all check out to help preserve our devices.  FLYGRIP’s basic principle is to extend your reach while helping secure your phone or e-reader at the same time. A spring loaded clip securely adheres to your device, or case. It leaves ample room to comfortably insert a couple fingers. So when reaching for your keyboard on your phone you get extra reach for your thumb. Or enough reach to easily navigate your e-reader. Not to mention the massive increase in confidence, knowing that your device won’t go tumbling. And use FLYGRIP as a landscape or portrait stand when you need both hands. Eight colors are available too so you can coordinate your look.
For $29.99, FLYGRIP provides peace of mind against “the drops.”

Scosche boomSTREAM wireless Bluetooth speaker

How many of you out there love living out a lifestyle that is free from demands as well as unnecessary shackles? This is what we are talking about when it comes to a wireless world, and we already have had wireless home phones for the longest time already, with wireless printers and scanners starting to take their place in homes and offices everywhere, not to mention having wireless speakers being strategically placed around the room so that you are able to hear just what the artist wants you to hear – at least, as close as possible. All this without running the risk of a wayward kid zipping around the home and tripping over some cables.
Now here is a candidate for a wireless speaker for you to consider – the Scosche boomSTREAM wireless Bluetooth speaker which is said to come with a wireless range of 33 feet like all good Bluetooth-enabled devices should come with, making it ideal for action regardless of where you are – at home, in your backyard while you hold a BBQ session, at the dorm with the rest of your mates, or even at the office when you want to chill out. Let us take a closer look at what the Scosche boomSTREAM wireless Bluetooth speaker is able to deliver right after the jump.
This particular wireless media speaker will play nice with Bluetooth 2.1 enabled devices which run on either the iOS or Android operating system, respectively. It is not only compact, making it lightweight in the process, hence placing the boomSTREAM in a very strategic location where it is ideal for streaming music throughout the home, regardless of where you are. Obviously, you will need to pay some attention to the range which you are working with, not to mention having to take into consideration the kind of obstacles such as concrete walls that might result in lowering the range by some bit.
Kas Alves, Executive VP Scosche Industries, said, “With the overwhelming success of our boomCAN portable speaker, we knew we had to offer a wireless option. Like its wired little brother, boomSTREAM delivers big sound in a compact package.”
Just what kind of audio action does the Scosche boomsTREAM offer right out of the box? We are looking at dual 40mm drivers and a down-firing passive subwoofer which is said to be able to deliver an enhanced bass response while producing an excellent listening experience. Not only that, to make sure you get to enjoy hours of music – up to 8 on a full charge in fact, there is a 1200 mA lithium polymer rechargeable battery. Heck, you can even use the Scosche boomSTREAM to juice up a smartphone thanks to the USB charging port.
It will not lack in terms of aesthetics either, as the Scosche boomSTREAM will come with a brushed aluminum surface, in addition to an intricate speaker covering that makes it very pleasant to look at regardless of where you place it. The presence of a built-in microphone will be able to transform the boomSTREAM into an enhanced speakerphone right there and then. The asking price for this little wireless speaker that could? $99.99 a pop.

Satechi Swift Bluetooth Speaker

All right, once I am done with the $29.99 Satechi Swift Bluetooth Speaker, I do not think I will be touching on Bluetooth speakers for quite some time in the future unless they are really outstanding devices in their own right. After all, when you’ve seen one of them, you have more or less seen the rest. What makes the Satechi Swift Bluetooth Speakerdifferent from the rest of the crowd then? This cleverly designed portable speaker will come with a sleek, black glossy exterior that is guaranteed to be a fingerprint magnet, where it allows you to stream high quality audio anytime, anywhere from any Bluetooth-enabled device.
It tips the scales at a featherweight 4.3 ounces, making it an ideal into just about any purse, carry-on or backpack so that you end up with what is deemed to be the perfect travel accessory. Capable of streaming audio up to 33 feet away from the source (barring any obstacles like walls, of course), the Satechi Swift Bluetooth Speaker will come with a rechargeable lithium ion battery that can last for up to 4 hours of talk time, 3 hours of playback and up to 300 hours of stand-by. It even comes with an integrated multi-function button which can activate voice dialing or Siri on iPhone 4S for some hands-free action.

Tesco announces interactive virtual grocery store at Gatwick Airport

The name Tesco is famous not only in the UK, but in many other countries around the world for offering lower prices of everyday items and groceries while you shop in a comfortable environment. I myself tend to get my weekly grocery shopping done over at Tesco, as the kind of goods that they have on offer tend to be fresh, not to mention being easy on the wallet. Well, here is an idea that the retail giant might hope to pioneer, that is, opening the first interactive virtual grocery store in Gatwick’s North Terminal, making it the UK’s first of its kind.
After all, what is worse than returning home from holiday to an empty fridge? Yes, I know, some of us do empty the perishable contents of our fridge before we leave for a holiday just in case there is a permanent blackout or brownout for a week or so, leading the contents of our fridge to rot and basically making your whole house smell like a skunk. Hence, when we return and open the fridge, there is nothing much left to chew on or eat, which is where this interactive virtual grocery store comes in handy.
Opening up the store in Gatwick will see the implementation of interactive digital displays to get your virtual shopping experience up and running, where passengers who pass through the North Terminal are able to browse products as though they were in a physical store in one sense, and this experience is culminated in the convenience of home delivery to boot. A quartet of interactive fridges in the virtual store are there for your perusal, and there will be half a dozen sites that are strategically positioned around the departure lounge for passengers to use.
Each of the ‘fridge’ can be scrolled using your hand, and you can browse through the products simply by touching the screens, followed by scanning the product barcodes in order to add them to your basket. More than 80 products are featured, and hopefully the Tesco staff will fulfill your order with fresh, unspoilt items by the time your order arrives at your doorstep!

Mind Controlled Movie Director

The mind’s power should not be underestimated in any way, and while we are still some ways off from the standard issue mind controlled computer (mouse and keyboard manufacturers would certainly loathe such an idea, as they would no longer have the relevant wares to sell to computer users), here is something that might just pique your interest. I am talking about the $129.95 Mind Controlled Movie Director which will allow you, the wearer, to be able to directly influence the course of specially created movies and games.
You will need to have the right dose of concentration and relaxation of course, and during some of the more crucial moments to achieve an action, you are required to blink your eyes. Basically, you have the power to choose, and this is like a modern day “Choose Your Own Adventure” series, where you can select who lives and dies, or whether the hero ends up victorious or loses, or even how close an arrow will fly towards the bullseye. The headset relies on electroencephalogram technology in order to detect the electric signals that are generated by the brain. The more you master your mind control, you are able to change plotlines and choose new endings in each of the four included movies. The Mind Controlled Movie Director will play nice with Windows 7, Vista, XP, Mac OS X 10.6.5+ operating systems, and make sure you have an AAA battery to keep the Bluetooth headset going.

“Bluetooth-itize” Your Docking Station

Remember the first time you heard your phone’s digital music on a docking station? Or in the car? Aaaaaahhhh, the clear sound was a treat for the ears. And it was so convenient to take your tunes with you, wherever.  But our use for our smartphones, and now tablets, grows every day. What used to be a music and communication device is now our main browser and email checker. Not to mention what we accomplish with apps. We can’t put the devices down!
As cool as the days of docking stations have been, these days it is not so simple to leave your phone plugged in for hours just to hear tunes.  Inevitably you need to look up a contact, play a game or check a website. Exeter Science & Entertainment (ESE) is here to solve the problem. Their CoolStream Bluetooth Receiver turns your 30 pin connector for your iPhone or iPad docking station or A/V cable into a Bluetooth docking station.  Use it for iPhones, iPads, Android phones and any other Bluetooth enabled device. So yes, if your car has Bluetooth and appropriate plug, use it in the car. It has a wireless connection up to 30 feet and automatically detects 5V (home) or 12V (car) power supply. The CoolStream is available on Amazon.com for just $39.99.
Keep your phone in your hand or your pad on the desk while streaming your favorite content to your dock. Just plug, pair and play with the CoolStream Bluetooth Receiver.

IRIScan Anywhere 3 helps you get your portable scanning action on

I have read many times that keeping track of my expenses is always a good idea – and that means writing down exactly where every single penny went. Well, that is all nice and good, but it becomes a huge headache when there are so many receipts to get hold of and store away safely somewhere. Don’t you think that life would be a whole lot easier if you could just scan those receipts once and for all? This is where I am going with the $199 IRIScan Anywhere 3.
Being a battery‐powered and cordless portable scanner certainly has its advantages – it is able to let you capture paper documents, receipts, photos and more without having to have a computer in the vicinity. On a full charge, it is able to scan up to a 100 full letter sized pages, regardless of whether it is in color or black and white. Being extremely intuitive to use, the IRIScan Anywhere 3 will let you zip through a sheet of paper in the scanner, where the scanned file will then be saved on the built‐in memory (up to 512MB), although there are two other options available – to send those saved files over to an SD memory card or to a standard USB flash drive. The IRIScan Anywhere 3 will be compatible with both Macs and PCs, where it will be bundled with the Readiris Pro 14 and Cardiris Pro 5 apps.

CarBot lets you have more fun with your smartphone

Just when you thought that the only forms of entertainment on your smartphone would be movies, music and games, along ambles the CarBot from Desk Pets International of Hong Kong. CarBots, as the name suggests, is a toy that comes in the shape of a car, and have been programmed with four interactive modes, namely Drift ‘n’ Race mode, Battle mode for multi-player fun, Maze mode, and Personality mode. It does not matter if you are running on an iOS-powered or Android-powered smartphone, the CarBot would still be revving to have a go!
With four colors to choose from (red, blue, orange and green), you can set your CarBots to battle mode for some multi-player mayhem thanks to its built-in infrared sensors. Each CarBot can be set to A, B, or C frequency so that the control scheme would not get all wonky, and you will rely on your reflexes and wit to make clever use of the fire button so that you disable your opponent’s CarBot in the process. Under Drift ‘n’ Race mode, you can enjoy full speed racing and drifting without having to call your insurance agent, while maze mode lets CarBots successfully navigate mazes and avoid obstacles. If things get too noisy, just set CarBots to mute. It takes around 40 minutes of charging for each CarBot to last for 25 minutes of play. The CarBots will retail for $29.99 each.
